FSSC 22000

FSSC 22000 «Food Safety System Certification 22000» – is a reliable, ISO standards-based, an internationally recognized scheme audit and certification of food safety management in the food supply chain. FSSC 22000 uses the existing standards ISO 22000, ISO 22003, as well as technical industry specifications “Software prerequisites” (SPR), which were developed in accordance with the authority of extensive public consultations with numerous stakeholders. Manufacturers, who already ISO 22000 certified, can obtain a certificate FSSC 22000, which confesses of the Global Initiative for Food Safety (GFSI), subject to the requirements of technical industry specifications (SPR) and additional scheme requirements.
FSSC 22000 was developed for food safety system management certification of organizations participating in the food supply chain that process or manufacture animal products, perishable vegetable products, products with a long shelf life and (other) food ingredients, such as supplements, vitamins and bioculture and well as food packaging.
Only certification bodies which have concluded an agreement with the FSSC 22000 are entitled to issue certificates accredited of FSSC 22000. FSSC 22000 certification scheme is fully recognized and approved by the Global Initiative for Food Safety (GFSI) and the European Cooperation for Accreditation (EA). Independent, nonprofit fund food safety certification, based in the Netherlands, has ownership and copyright to the scheme and gives license agreements for certification authorities.

Recognition by the European Cooperation for Accreditation (EA). Scope FSSC 22000 is used for audit and certification of food safety organizations – participants of the food supply chain which process or produce:

  • perishable animal products (i.e. meat products, poultry products, eggs, dairy and fish products);
  • perishable vegetable products (i.e. fresh fruits and fruit juices, canned fruits, fresh vegetables, canned vegetables);
  • products with a long shelf life at room temperature (i.e. canned goods, biscuits, cookies, cereals, vegetable oil, drinking water, beverages, pasta, flour, sugar, salt);
  • products (bio) chemical manufacture (i.e. vitamins, supplements and bioculture), apart from the technical and processing aids;
  • packaging for food products (i.e. products, directly or indirectly in contact with food).

FSSC 22000 applies to transport and storage on site processing or production, if these processes are part of the production cycle (e.g. cheese ripening). Scheme is applicable to all organizations in the food supply chain, regardless of the size and complexity of their structure, whether commercial or non-profit organization, public or private. Given the desire GFSI to expand its activities to other segments of the food chain , the scheme FSSC 22000 is ready to integrate new applications will be developed as soon as the necessary technical and industry specifications SPR will be developed and significant number of requests goes to extend the FSSC 22000 new segments of the food chain.
